RELIABLE HANDICAPPING RESULTS IN HAPPY MEMBERS
In 1971 on his Dad’s boat north of Sydney, 14 year old John Maclurcan became intrigued by the elapsed times of racing yachts and understanding how a disparate fleet of yachts related to each other. This was the birth of PHS handicapping and over 40 years later it is this handicapping that is used by more fleets on Sydney Harbour than any other, including the prestigious Sydney to Hobart.
It was this handicapping and his contribution to yachting that was recognised in 2000 with an Australian Sports Medal.
This pedigree in handicapping enables clubs like the Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron and Royal Prince Edwards Yacht Club to continue to build on their reputation for fair and reliable handicapping.
